Economy Trip Itinerary (Click here for Deluxe)
Day 2: Bike from Mainz to Rudesheim (20 miles). Our first day of biking takes us through Germany's premier wine growing region. We bike through Eltville, one of the prettiest towns on the Rhein, where we stop for a picnic in a castle courtyard. We then continue to Rudesheim, surrounded by vineyards and home to the famous Germania statue.
Day 3: Bike from Rudesheim to Bacharach (11 miles). Today we start biking through the scenic Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with more than 40 castles and fortresses, many dating back to the Middle Ages. We spend the night in a castle perched on a hill above the storybook town of Bacharach- definitely one of the highlights of the trip! This region is famous for their wine, and in the afternoon you can partake in an optional wine tasting.
Day 4: Bike from Bacharach to Koblenz (29 miles). Continue biking through the Rhine Gorge, where small towns along the river surrounded by vineyards become a common sight. We bike past the famous Lorelei, and end in Koblenz which is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Our hostel tonight is inside the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, one of the largest forts in Europe. We access the fort via a cable car that crosses the Rhine- a fun experience that gives a different view of the river!
Day 5: Bike from Koblenz to Leutesdorf (16 miles). We have the morning to explore more of Koblenz, and then we continue biking north to Leutesdorf. During the ride today, the countryside starts to become less hilly as we leave the Rhine Gorge. We spend the night at a riverfront hostel that used to be a convent!
Day 6: Bike from Leutesdorf to Bonn (24 miles). Our last day of biking takes us further along the Rhine towards Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, and the birthplace of Beethoven. Bonn is a smaller city that features a lot of outdoor cafes and biergartens along with beautiful parks and architecture from the historic buildings. Our arrival in Bonn marks the end of our biking, and after completing ~100 miles we will enjoy a delicious celebratory dinner!
